White Mountains Catholic Charities

This little two person agency in McNary, Arizona, an old lumber town in the middle of the Apache Reservation does big things for the many people in need who come for assistance. We also have a satellite office in Snowflake and do outreach in the Heber/Overgaard area.

People often die of exposure in our area each winter. Catholic Charities here works with churches, agencies and individuals to meet any need individuals present, but is very focused on housing and energy needs. We have been able to "recycle" mobile homes, fixing up and giving four away to families in the past two years. We collaborate with other agencies to provide housing and we have obtained state and federal contracts to assure that entitlement programs are available to the needy in this high poverty area. These funds enable the staff to provide assistance with utilities, rent/mortgage payments and food. We also assess energy needs for individual homes, educate people on energy conservation and provide funding to upgrade the energy available to the home.

Our staff also provides free used clothing, counseling and money management assistance, referral services and moral support to anyone who calls on us.
