CLAUDINE MORROW

Navajo Madonna by Claudine Morrow Raised near Page, Arizona, while her father was second-in-command of construction on the Glen Canyon Dam, Claudine became friends with local Navajo. Since then, she has been recognized for her portraits of the American Indian and is referred to by the Navajo as " Asdza Nasilid Nakaha ", the "Woman Who Carries the Rainbow ". She now applies her knowledge of the timeless classic techniques to a wider range of subjects which include local landscapes and Southwestern-inspired still-life compositions.

Claudine Morrow studied her palette, craftmanship and technique with C.R. Read in Fresno, California, and noted Hungarian artist Oden Hullenkramer while in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Remarkably expressive eyes are a hallmark of a Morrow portrait. Her paintings are found in private collections throughout the United States, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Columbia. Her paintings have been exhibited at the Museum of Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

H. Acothley by Claudine Morrow In 1975 she became the first American woman to have paintings purchased by the Whitney Museum of Western Art. The Santa Fe Railroad Art Collection in Chicago, Illinois, acquired two of her paintings for its notable Southwestern Art section and twice used reproductions of her paintings on its famed Santa Fe calendar. She is a member of the American Portrait Society.

Returning to her early childhood home near Page, Arizona, she continues her life-long pursuit of painting. With gallery exhibitions and sales primarily in Scottsdale and Wahweap, Arizona, Claudine Morrow is a foundation of Southwestern fine art.
